SummerFest Party for Families is July 9
Enjoy fun in the sun with Albany Public Library at the seventh annual SummerFest outdoor family party this Saturday, July 9, from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Delaware Branch (331 Delaware Ave.).
This free outdoor family-friendly festival features bounce houses, activities, games, close-up magic, a robot dance-off, book giveaways, and refreshments. SummerFest is the major event in the library’s Summer Reading Program, which encourages literacy by rewarding kids for reading. The party gives children a chance to sign up for summer reading and sample the activities and books available at the library. The SummerFest hospitality sponsor is Price Chopper/Market 32. Summer Reading Program sponsors also include the Friends of Albany Public Library and Stewart’s Shops.
The library’s July 9 SummerFest activities, all free, include:
- Obstacle course bounce house
- Dance party bounce house with music and lights
- Basketball and t-ball
- Toddler bounce house
- Close-up magic with Mr. Magicman
- Robot dance-off by youngsters in the APL Beat Bots workshop/summer camp
- Book giveaway
- Refreshments from hospitality sponsor Price Chopper/Market 32
- Special guest(s)
Prior to the party, the Delaware Branch will host a used-book sale from 9 am until 12 pm on the patio in front of the library.
The SummerFest party is so big that the library is closing all branches—except for the Delaware Branch and the Washington Ave. Branch—on Saturday, July 9.
APL SummerFest is one of the featured events at the Delaware Avenue Street Fair on July 9, which includes special sales at many businesses, food and activity booths, music and art, yard sales, and free trolley rides.
