Free Tax Prep Help at the Library
Albany Public Library should be your first stop for income tax assistance and resources this tax season.
On select days from Feb. 5 through April 1, the library’s Washington Ave. Branch, Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch, and Delaware Branch provide free federal income tax preparation services.
Appointments, which are made by calling 211, are available at various dates and times. There is an income limit of $56,000 for people participating in the program.
All tax help at APL branches is by appointment only and must be scheduled by calling the United Way 2-1-1 hotline. (The individual branches cannot schedule appointments.)
Albany Public Library branches also stock basic New York State and federal forms for individual filers. Details and other tax resources can be found online.
The income tax preparation services are provided by APL’s partners—volunteers from the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the AARP Tax-Aide program. APL’s tax program provides a valuable service to the community. Every year, more than 1,500 people get their taxes prepared for free at Albany Public Library resulting in over $2 million in refunds back to the community.
