You can apply for an adult resident card (valid at all public libraries in Albany and Rensselaer counties) or an eCard (valid only at Albany Public Library) online.

Adult Resident Cards

An Adult Resident card with full borrowing privileges requires address verification, and once we create your account, we require that you pick it up at the Albany Public Library neighborhood branch of your choice. You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and provide:

• Photo ID (an original local, state, or federally issued photo identification)
• Proof of Address (Acceptable forms of address verification are any business mail, bill, or pay stub with your name and street address and a legible postmark/date from within the last four weeks. Please note that P.O. boxes are not acceptable as a street address)

Adult eCards

Adult eCards will be mailed to the applicant’s Albany, N.Y. address. Please note: The eCard is valid only at Albany Public Library locations. If you already have an Albany Public Library card, you do not need an eCard. Your current card number can be used for all our digital content.
