Summer Reading Fun Starts June 24

Summer Reading Fun Starts June 24

June 19, 2017 | Youth Services

It’s our favorite time of the year — Summer Reading! From June 24 to Aug. 19, APL encourages kids and teens to read by providing prizes and special activities.

Librarians and educators have long encouraged kids to read every day during the summer, even if it’s just for 10 minutes a day. Students who read over those long summer months are less likely to fall behind when school starts up again in September.

Close to 100 special activities and events — plus more than 100 regular stortimes and game programs — are scheduled during the eight-week Summer Reading Program across the city’s library branches.

The summer program guide (pages 8-15) and online calendar have full event listings and details.

Participants register and record their reading in person at any Albany library.

Be sure to join us for the Summer Reading Kickoff on Saturday, June 24, at ALL library branches. Kids and teens can sign up for the program at ANY branch. A few of our locations will have special activities, too.
